Tamiya 1/48 P-47D Bubble Top - A dio in a box

Started this one a while back, will be done as the box art, WZ-P

comes with a jeep, 9 figures and equipment.

This is going on a 350x350cm board


And here we go....



base colours and started the detail painting,



Finished the pit area, last open pics before I close it up.

I used Tamiya A/S12 silver as my base coat, scratched some interior green off, detail painted everything, used Mig dark wash sparingly, flatcoated, then drybrushed aluminum on certain area's.

IP - used Tamiya decal with Future under and over, let fully cure, then rolled tiny blu tac balls and covered each dial, flatcoated the IP, removed blu tac, detail painted the switches etc.

I got a very light lift on two small areas but can live with that.












My usual base silver, Tamiya rattle  A/S 12 with selected areas masked, wing stripes done, will be using the decals for the fuselage ones cause I couldn't get the cockamamie angles and half moon curves right that go under the U.S. fuselage star.

2nd round of silver Tamiya rattle T/S 17 gloss Aluminum










The secret here is to let that Gloss T/S 17 fully dry and harden before more masking of more selected panels.

Next will be Mr Metal Aluminum

Awesome paint job and the cockpit detailing is eyewateringly amazing!!

OK time to get this bird back on track.

decals finished tonight then onto the final stages.















did a bit of fine tuning to the shine, and have to be careful with the mig wash in the panel lines as it seriously screws with the high shine, more soon.

and a little more done, prop blades to be flatcoated, tempted and prob will flatcoat the checker nose by sealing the rest in a plastic bag

Well here she is, I started doing some panel lines with Mig dark wash applied with a small 6 hair brush, but found that if I hit the high shine it played havoc with it so I stopped. I may go back and do a bit more, doesn't help having hand shake while trying to do this.



































I also had a bit too much light bouncing around those white surfaces.

Here's a tip : with Tamiya's ingenious polly caps to fit the prop, they sometimes don't spin so good, just get a clean toothpick, dip into light oil - sewing machine grade - and apply into the prop shaft hole , the oil lubricates the poly cap and you have a nice free spinning prop.

Got stuck in and finished the Figs for the P-47 and Jeep, dio board next up.

The officer on the right had a strange stance so added a walking stick.
