Macross (Robotech) 1/72 Regult Assult Pod - My next build

Ever since I watched the "Robotech" animated TV series back in the 80's by Harmony Gold, I have been hooked on mecha! The Battletech series of board games, PC games and animation were based on the "Robotech" designs. 

Anyway, after all these years, I have tracked down the model kits and here is my first foray a "Zentradi battle pod" - they were the bad guys  

As this is "military" in a manner of speaking, I have decided to post it here - maybe a Sci-Fi section is required in the future?









Its not a massive kit, but it is quite impressive in term of size.

I'm looking forward to sharing its birth and completion.

That is going to be farrrrrr too cool. I for one will be watching this one.

Well, I've been busy, but not that busy as it's been too cold in the garage... (UK winter)

But, any way.. I have managed to do some work on the dio for the kit.

Here is the proposed build...

Thanks for kind comments, it's a bit rough but I think it captures the intent.

Here are two more pics, with and without a flash as they show up different details. The paving was laborious but well worth it - 00 scale paving!
There is still a tree , street lights and some other odds and ends to added - the sign board emphasises the location of the vignette.

I've been beavering away a bit so there should be another small update in a couple of days.

The work continues, and I've finally completed the base and have begun work on the battle pod.

I've started to do some chipping (first time) and am having fun doing it, I'm just worried I'll over do it!!

It's been fun doing this build, it's totally different to anything I've done before.

My past attempts as a kid at sci-fi resulted in the butchering of jet fighter kits.......

Well, the battle pod is approaching completion, in the pics below you can see a partially weathered and assembled main body and I've started weathering up the "feet" and legs.







What is really cool, is that I never don this level of weathering before (not required on motorbikes) , so its been a bit of a steep learning curve reading up on new methods and improving old techniques!!

It's been a blast!!

The end is in sight!!
