| I am going to do this one OOB as a full build review starting with a ITB review. This is my very first FINEMOLDS model so this should be a bit of a journey of discovery. Well this is the kit... ...and this is the first glance.... | |

| Geoff,
The only Fine Molds kit I have in the stash is a Judy.
Box says it can be either D4Y1 or D4Y2, different box art than yours but definitely with the in-line engine.
Good luck. It's a beautiful plane.

| Interesting looking bird, sort of a Stuka front end look to it, and good to see a Fine Molds kit in progress. | |

| Well I started it so let me start by giving a bit of detail about the kit. The single big issue is that all instructions are in Japanese which includes the colour call-outs, so you will have to be extra careful with checking and dry fitting in order to make sure you have the right sequence and correct placement. With colour call-outs in Japanese it also means you are going to have to do more research than usual. The plastic is moulded in light Grey and the quality is quite good with the plastic itself only slightly brittle but hard which also means careful removal from the sprue but at the same time good to chop and sand. Decals are rather sparse with three optional aircraft that only vary by slight changes on the tail codes so choosing a subject is very easy - I would suggest after market options. Quite a bit of White metal such as landing gear, seats, cockpit gun and some other minor bits - all of which could really have just been done in plastic! So far the fit has been fine with no real issues but again you needs your wits about you when referring to the instruction sheet. I think the cockpit may be a bit empty looking so i may add some bits and bobs to fill it up but i'll wait until all the bits are in before i go that route. I have gotten so far without headaches so all good.... | |

- Well so far there have been very few issues with this kit. The main ones have been a slight gap where the wings meet the fuselage. small gaps on the bomb bay doors and a slightly off centre cockpit - not of which were too difficult to fix. Aluminium under coat is on....
Thats starting to turn out very nicely Jugs. Very nice aluminium finish btw... Steve | |

| That is looking really smart Geoff, did you mean you were going to paint touch up the broken decals?

| Hi Phil, no those have been weathered, I need to completely paint some that simply disintegrated. Cheers | |
