I'm working on a long-term project (which doesn't mean it'll ever be completed).  I wanna build aircraft representing losses suffered by the 12 Luftwaffe groups flying 109s and 190s during Operation Bodenplatte.

Using a lot of info and research but especially these two:

Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash Bf109G-14AS1

I do not have a stock kit of the G-14/AS but research tells me I can smoosh together one from a G-10 kit and a G-14 kit.  I believe I have found what I need in these two to make one:

Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash Bf109G-14AS3
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash Bf109G-14AS2

I need:

-- streamlined fuselage machine gun bulges  (G-10 kit)
--  Tall fin/ rudder assembly  (Both kits, I'll stick with the G-10 kit)
--  SMALL tire bulges on the tops of the wings  (G-14 kit)
--  Erla canopy  (Both kits have it)
--  Long or short tailwheel assembly  (G-14 long, G-10 short)

The "Bodenplatte" book has an AMAZING set of appendices at the end, my favorite being Appendix 3 with German losses on the day.  It includes aircraft type, each aircraft's serial number (where known), aircraft ID (ex. Black 3, White 11, etc.), pilots' names, crash location, cause of loss... incredible and extremely valuable for modelers.

The other book has outstanding information and beautiful profile paintings for color ideas.  I say ideas because I have found minor discrepancies with possible/ probable paint color identifications.  But using this book I can easily figure out, with enough probability towards accuracy, proper and appealing paint/ camo schemes.

I'm leaning toward a JG/53 plane (I just always liked this Gruppe over the years).  And even with NO actual pictures of the G-14/AS I'm doing it's a lot of fun kitbashing and painting based on my research; accurate, flawed or otherwise it's all on me.

Ken

P.S.  Geoff, I'm gonna copy this to ARC and see if I get any of the respect they forgot to show you with your Dora.  But I post here first because you're cool.  Almost as cool as me. flower

the wing fits PERFECTLY to the fuselage during dry fitting.

I mean... perfectly. cheers

Man, life keeps you busy. This is all I've been able to do in about a month.  Might go a little quicker now.

Away too long... where am I?

Kit assembly, wheel bulges added, Quickboost cowl MGs:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2009

Access port filled, leaving proper port below:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2006

Ready for priming:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2019
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2018

And primed:

I'm going with Tamiya mixes I've seen numerous times and I've tried with excellent results.  My plane is of a production block that could have been painted with the nebulous color referred to as RLM84 but the profile I'm sorta kinda following has standard RLM76 so I'm going with that.  Here's what will make that color:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2010

Then for the topsides the RLM75 will be these two mixed:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2012

And my RLM82 will be one of these four:  (I'm leaning toward the XF-58 but the actual paint, not the cap, of the XF-5 looks real good too)
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2013

Not yet decided on which particular A/C but definitely JG/53.  Have some extra decals so I just have to make up my mind:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2021

Brand new airbrush AND compressor ready for paint.  Wish me luck. geek

great work, can you source the Gunze/Mr Hobby acrylic paints? I use them for my paintwork and once you try them you will never use anything else.

About to begin the homestretch:

Fuselage and bottom painted RLM76, with the metal panels left unpainted:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2024
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2026

Topside colors RLM75 and RLM82 sprayed and faded:
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2035-1
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2034-1
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2033

And the markings.  Haven't decided which among three A/C to do, but it's only my choice of side number.
Me 109G-14/AS 1/48th kitbash 100_2027

Fuselage cross fill is RLM75 whereas a darker color was more usual.  I'm going off a profile painting that looked pretty accurate to me.  And I still have to paint the standard RLM82 blotches on the tail/ rudder assembly.  Since I'm building a plane (one marking or another) of a II/JG53, I need to figure out the Gruppe marking on the black RVD band.  I may do "Black 3" so I gotta use a white-outlined black horizontal bar, and a white-outlined numeral.  That's what I'm thinking, anyway.

I built this almost completely on speculation as to how an aircraft of this type and from this Geschwader should have appeared at this time.
